5 Places I’d Take A Friend Visiting Charlotte, NC
1. Brakeman's Coffee in Downtown Matthews ☕️
If we're starting the day, we're starting with coffee.
Brakeman's has become one of my favorite spots in Downtown Matthews. The atmosphere feels local, welcoming, and perfectly suited for a slow morning. After grabbing a coffee, we'd spend some time walking around downtown, popping into local shops, and exploring one of the most charming areas just outside Charlotte.
Why I love it: It feels like the kind of place where people become regulars. Made from an old house, this is by far their cutest location. I’ve also been known to spend too many hours working from here, oops!
2. Four Mile Creek Greenway 🌳
One of the things I appreciate most about living around Charlotte is how many opportunities there are to get outside.
The Four Mile Creek Greenway is perfect for a walk, bike ride, or simply slowing down for a bit. It's one of those places that reminds you how important green space can be in everyday life. I love going to the entrance beside the Trader Joe’s off of Rea Road (South Charlotte Section - South) - I’ll normally pop in to see what new seasonal snacks they have as a reward for getting in my steps!
Why I love it: It makes it easy to build simple routines you actually look forward to.
3. The Bowl at Ballantyne ✨
If someone wanted to understand why so many people love South Charlotte, I'd bring them here.
The Bowl has quickly become one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon. Between the restaurants, outdoor spaces, community events, and walkability, it captures a lot of what makes the area feel vibrant and connected.
Why I love it: It feels like a community gathering place rather than just another shopping center. You’ll see tons of families enjoying the open spaces here as well as friends reconnecting over coffee, wine, or smoothies.
4. Postino at The Bowl 🍷
The Bowl has quickly become one of my favorite places to spend an afternoon. Between the restaurants, outdoor spaces, community events, and walkability, it captures a lot of what makes the area feel vibrant and connected. After walking around The Bowl, we'd stop at Postino.
Whether it's lunch with friends, a casual date night, or a glass of wine on the patio, it's the kind of place that makes you want to linger a little longer. The atmosphere feels approachable and fun without trying too hard.
Why I love it: Great food, great people-watching, and one of my favorite patios around Charlotte, NC. Did I mention they have a great lunch special?!
5. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream 🍦
No perfect day of exploring Charlotte, NC is complete without a sweet treat, and Jeni's is always high on my list. Whether you're grabbing a scoop after dinner, taking a break from shopping, or simply looking for an excuse to enjoy a beautiful Carolina evening, it's one of those places that turns a simple outing into a memory.
Between the creative flavors and the inevitable debate over what to order, Jeni's has become one of my favorite little traditions around Charlotte.
Why I love it: A scoop of ice cream and a walk around Blakeney is one of those simple outings that never gets old. My true ideal evening always includes two scoops of Brambleberry Crisp.
